What we bring to Swampscott

  • Cenicafé — our everyday cup from Chinavita, Boyacá. Cocoa, honey, hazelnut and citrus. Whole bean or ground, medium or dark roast.
  • San Bernardo — single-farm, sun-dried and roasted at origin in Ibagué, Tolima. Chocolate and red fruit over a silky body.
  • Bosa Coffee Drips — single-serve pour-over bags. Hot water and a mug, nothing else.
  • All five chocolate bars — 85 g each, from 35% white chocolate with lulo to 70% dark with orange.
  • Hot Cocoa tablets — 100% Colombian cocoa, no sugar, no dairy.
  • Wayúu mochilas — hand-woven in La Guajira. Market only. Photographs do not do them justice.

A Sunday coffee, the Colombian way

In Colombia, coffee is not a morning transaction. A tinto — a small cup of black coffee — arrives when a neighbor drops by, when the afternoon slows down, when someone needs a reason to sit for ten minutes. A market on a Sunday morning is exactly that kind of moment.

Come try both coffees side by side. It takes five minutes and it is the fastest way to understand what single-origin actually means.

The women behind the products

The coffee is hand-picked cherry by cherry, largely by the women who work the farms. The cacao in our chocolate is transformed by Afro-Colombian women on the Pacific coast of Cauca — eight farms, eight towns, in the case of our tasting box. The mochilas are woven by Wayúu women in La Guajira, and a single bag can take weeks.

We can tell you which farm, which town, which weaver. Ask.

Finding us

The market runs on the lawn in front of Swampscott Town Hall on Monument Avenue, a few minutes from the Swampscott stop on the Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail line. Look for the yellow and blue coffee bags.

Brewing questions welcome

If your coffee at home has been tasting thin or bitter, bring the question — most fixes cost nothing. Our brewing guide covers six methods, including one detail specific to this area: Boston-area tap water is soft and low in minerals, which under-extracts and makes good coffee taste weak.

Other ways to find us

We are also at the Lincoln Arts & Farmers Market on Saturdays and at Nahant Market by the Sea. Everything except the mochilas ships from Boston.
