Developed by Colombia's research institute Cenicafé, the Castillo variety is a cross between Caturra and the Timor Hybrid Castillo | The Colombian Coffee Company. Introduced in 2005, it is now the most widely grown coffee in Colombia, highly valued by farmers for its high yields and resistance to coffee leaf rust (la Roya).
